City joins global campaign of conserving biodiversity

The city calls for all stakeholders to stop and reverse biodiversity loss.

The CoE joins the global community in marking today, May 22, as the International Day for Biodiversity.

According to the United Nations, over half of global GDP depends on nature.

Over one billion people rely on forests for their livelihoods, while the land and oceans absorb more than half of all carbon emissions.

The city has many natural resources like mammals, reptiles, over 400 bird species, and wetlands, and will continue investing in conserving this biodiversity.

Over the years, the city has raised awareness and education on the importance of biodiversity conservation due to habitat loss, over-exploitation, climatic change, pollution, invasive exotic species, diseases and hunting.

The 2024 International Day for Biodiversity theme is Be part of the Plan, a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
