Two talented pianists to provide Mother’s Day entertainment

“This event will showcase Heinrich Sutton and Chanda Lupambo, two of South Africa’s promising young pianists who have recently garnered national recognition in music competitions.”

The Chamber Music Collective (CMC) delighted audience members from Ekurhuleni with their most recent performance on April 28, at The Shed and Silo, in Norton Home Estates.

Two talented Gauteng classical musicians, Magdalena de Vries (classical marimba) and Jannie le Roux (piano), presented their programme entitled Your Favourite Favourites. Their selection included well-known works by Vivaldi, JS Bach, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff, with the marimba playing the vocal or instrumental melody.

Eugene Joubert, artistic director for the CMC, said the classical marimba is a fascinating instrument not often heard in live performances.

“Although it shares its name with the African marimba, often heard in school marimba bands, this instrument features a layout similar to a piano’s keyboard, though on a much larger scale,” he explained.

“It was wonderful to see audience members freely engaging with Magdalena during the interval, inquiring about sound production and repertoire.

“The Kawai grand piano, an instrument maintained to precision by Piano Industry, was an ideal vehicle for Jannie’s sensitive playing.

“The Chamber Music Collective invites East Rand audiences to its next performance, Rising Stars, on Mother’s Day (May 12).
