Ekurhuleni detectives praised for bringing offenders to book

Ekurhuleni district FCS members commended for securing hefty sentences.

Ekurhuleni deputy district commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela commended the meticulous investigations by members of Family Violence, Child Protection Services and Sexual Offences in securing convictions.

Sergeant Siphelele Elsie Mtshali of Katlehong FCS secured a 20-year imprisonment sentence for the 53-year-old accused Benjamin Bheki Diniso, who was a pastor in one of the churches in Katlehong.

“The accused was found guilty by the Johannesburg High Court recently for sexually assaulting men between 17 to 29 years old in their church,” said Ekurhuleni district communications Captain Nelda Sekgobela.

“Warrant Officer Thundzuka Edison of Germiston FCS secured a sentence for 36-year-old Phila Mcameleni for kidnapping, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and murder.

“The courts heard that the victim was walking with her two friends when they were approached by the accused who pointed a firearm at them before grabbing the victim. He dragged her to his residence where he raped her.

The witnesses reported the matter to the victim’s mother and the police were contacted.

“The police went to the accused residence where a search was conducted. A firearm and the victim were found inside the house.

“Investigations linked the firearm to a murder case dating to August 2019. Both the cases were investigated by Warrant Officer Moyana who connected all the dots until the accused was sentenced.”
