Edenglen High celebrates athlete

"Her name will be etched in the annals of South African athletics for years to come, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations."

Edenglen High School has always prided itself on fostering talent across various disciplines.

According to the school’s public relations and marketing coordinator, Itumeleng Gwangwa, one learner, who shines bright on the athletic field is Kaylee le Roux.

A name that resonates with speed and determination, Le Roux has been making waves not only locally but also on the international track.

Last year marked a significant milestone in Le Roux’s career as she became the first-time All-African CAA champion, representing South Africa on the international stage.

Le Roux’s journey to athletics started at an early age, however, in 2021 she secured four gold medals at the Puma School of Speed South Africa.

Winning two golds, one in the 100m and the other in the 200m, showcased her raw talent and dedication to the sport.

“Her performance caught the attention of many, setting the stage for what was to come.”

Le Roux’s skill was put to the test in 2022 on the international platform as she represented South Africa at the AUSC Region competition.

“It was here that she displayed her unparalleled speed, clinching first place overall in both the 100m and 200m races,” said Gwangwa.

“Her dominance across the five races solidified her status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.”

She also claimed the title of the 200m South African U20 champion, further cementing her status as a rising star in the sport.

Not to rest on her laurels, Le Roux continued to push boundaries throughout 2023.

Gwangwa said despite facing fierce competition Le Roux emerged as the fourth-fastest 100m South African finalist, securing a spot in the top eight in the all-African 200m finals.

“Le Roux’s journey from a promising young athlete at Edenglen High School to an international sensation is a testament to her unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence,” said Gwangwa.

“Her name will be etched in the annals of South African athletics for years to come, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations.”
