Edenvale police provide crime prevention tips

“Edenvale SAPS urges residents to respect laws put in place to keep them and fellow community members safe,”

Although the Easter holidays have come and gone, Edenvale SAPS looks forward to working with the community to prevent and reduce crime.

SAPS management appealed to residents and the greater community to remain vigilant and not let their guard down.

“Residents should always make sure that the doors and gates at home are locked at all times. They should make sure there are no points of entry for criminals to access,” said Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile.

He said no matter the time of year, community members should refrain from posting their holiday plans on social media.

Mashile said although it may be nice to share images of where you are on holiday, this also indicates to criminals that residents are not home.

“Thieves monitor social media platforms to see who is and who is not at home. Residents should wait until they are back home to post on social media.”

To further protect the community, the SAPS appealed to motorists not to drink and drive.

Mashile also appealed to community members to abstain from drinking in public.

“Drinking in public places such as a park is an offence and you will get arrested for it.

He said the police, along with Edenvale CPF and private security companies, are trying to contain and curb crime in town.

“Residents must do their bit to help like reporting any suspicious activities or vehicles.”
