WATCH: Further delays in council proceedings, residents angered

Party representatives all made arguments before council before EFF members ordered that the motion be withdrawn.

Protestors outside the Ekurhuleni council offices in Germiston were blocked from entering the building earlier.

After a negotiations, leaders from the residents’ group were allowed inside to meet with the Speaker of Council, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga.

Earlier, council was recessed for 15 minutes to allow the Multiparty Charter of South Africa to come to a consensus on which item on today’s agenda needed to be heard first.

Before the latest recess arguments were heard for the rejection of a proposal to start the day with the extraordinary council meeting.

MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Ald Nkosindiphile Xhakazi said the AG report must be tabled first because of the urgency of the report.

The extra ordinary council meeting will see the presentation of the Auditor General’s report while the second items on the agenda for today is the resumption of the February 29 meeting.

On February 29, the council meeting descended into chaos when a physical fight broke out after a motion of for a vote of no confidence against mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana was tabled by ActionSA, ANC and the DA.
