WATCH: DA councillors walk out of council meeting

Former Ekurhuleni mayor, Tania Campbell said the speaker cannot swap proceedings around as she pleases because it is illegal.

Councillors and representatives from the Democratic Alliance have walked out of council this afternoon siting that they will not be part of an “illegal meeting”.

This follows the resumption of the council meeting with a vote in which 99 representatives vote for the continuance of the extra ordinary council meeting before the motion of no confidence vote against mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana.

98 votes were cast for the motion of no confidence to take place before the resumption of the extra ordinary council meeting.

One person was absent from the voting.

Members of the DA called the meeting illegal before walking out of the council chambers.

Former mayor for the City of Ekurhuleni, Tania Campbell said the DA would only be removing itself from the extra ordinary council meeting.

“It is illegal. The speaker cannot swap proceedings around. You have to follow it by law.”

“What should have happened now it the MONK (Motion of No Confidence) or continuation of the last meeting and then we have the extra ordinary council meeting,” said Campbell.
