Edenvale CPF warns of suspects targeting good Samaritans

The modus operandi used by the perpetrators includes them stopping or approaching motorists and asking them for directions.

Edenvale CPF warned community members to be vigilant while out on the road especially when approached by community members asking for directions.

The CPF and Edenvale SAPS say motorists around the R24 on-ramp are being targeted by hijackers.

According to the statement, issued on the CPF’s social media platforms, the modus operandi used by the perpetrators includes them stopping or approaching motorists and asking them for directions.

Authorities urged motorists not to stop as this makes them vulnerable.

Additional advice provided included:

• Not to make use of your cellphone while driving.

• Ensure the vehicle’s windows are closed and doors locked especially while stationary.

• Never park yourself, while in traffic, and leave room for an emergency manoeuvre.

• Don’t have valuables visible on the seats of your vehicle.

• Travel to your nearest well-lit area, petrol station or police station if you feel unsafe at night.

• Limit distractions while driving.
