Edenvale SAPS seizes dagga worth R93 255

“The seized exhibit comprised approximately 5.9kg of dagga. It underscores the gravity of the illegal activity happening within the community.”

While conducting routine patrols, members of Edenvale Police Station’s Crime Prevention Unit arrested a suspect on February 18.

According to Edenvale SAPS’ Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Chetty, a vigilant police officer noticed a community member in possession of dagga.

“Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the substance had been acquired from a local shop,” said Chetty.

He said officers conducted an inquiry and discovered that the business in question was selling dagga without the necessary documentation.

Chetty said this discovery led to the officers arresting the suspect, who they detained for further legal proceedings.

“The seized exhibit comprised approximately 5.9kg of dagga. It underscores the gravity of the illegal activity happening within the community.”

Chetty said the street value of the confiscated dagga is about R93 255.

“The arrest not only serves as a testament to the dedication and diligence of the members but also underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the illegal drug trade,” said Chetty.

He said this is an ongoing investigation.
