Siblings at Saheti obtain regional colours at chess tournament

Saheti sisters received chess colours at regional tournament.

Siblings Alexandra and Mila Papanicolaou, who are in grades seven and five respectively at Saheti School, have been awarded regional colours by Johannesburg Metro Chess (JMC).

This followed their performance as part of the U12 girls A team in the 2024 Gauteng Inter-Region Chess Championship held in Pretoria recently.

Mila emerged victorious in four out of five games, while Alexandra achieved a score of 3.5 out of five games.

“This is the second consecutive year that Mila has received regional colours. She was also honoured with national colours by Chess South Africa last year, for placing first in the National Closed Competition.

She was also selected to represent her country on an international stage in Batumi, Georgia,” said the school’s head of marketing, Anna Botha.
