CoE’s road renaming meetings postponed

The decision to suspend these meetings comes as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to reconfigure and prioritize the delivery of basic services

The City of Ekurhuleni has postponed several public participation meetings set for the renaming of roads in Edenvale, Bapsfontein and Kempton Park.

The meetings were set to occur on February 17 at Klopper Park Hall, on February 24 at Little Eden in Bapsfontein and in Kempton Park on March 2.

Roads that will be renamed include Wagenaar Road and two others in Kempton Park and Bapsfontein.

According to CoE, the decision to suspend these meetings comes as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to reconfigure and prioritise the delivery of basic services such as clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity, shelter, waste removal, and fixing potholes for the community.

While these meetings are temporarily suspended, CoE said it remains dedicated to finding alternative ways to ensure that community voices are heard and that important matters continue to be addressed.

Although it is not categorised as a priority for now, standardisation of geographical name features remains a constitutional obligation as per the provision of the South African Geographical Names Act 118 of 1998.

The city encouraged community members to stay informed through its official channels of communication such as its website and social media platforms where updates and relevant information will be provided as they become available.
