Learners of Edenglen High inspired by Tyla’s Grammy win
The News spoke to learners at her former high school, Edenglen High, about what it meant to them seeing a talented young South African succeeding internationally.
Head boy Brandon Chauya said, “As nice as it was for me as an individual to watch Tyla’s success, seeing it from the school's perspective as she wins such a major accolade is incredible. This was not only for the school but for the community and the whole of SA.”
Following Tyla Seethal’s success at the 66th annual Grammy Awards where she was awarded a Grammy for her song Water in the best African music performance category, the News spoke to learners at her former high school, Edenglen High, about what it meant to them seeing a talented young South African succeeding internationally.
Deputy head girl Tandi Kurauzvione said, “Tyla shows us that we can go after our dreams. She has set the standard and shown us that the sky is the limit. Just like us, Tyla started as a learner at Edglen and it just shows that we can achieve our dreams if we put our minds to it.”
Head of the choir Nondumiso Nyayi said, “It’s very inspirational. Tyla matriculated ahead of me and I aspire to follow a similar journey. It’s inspirational for the entire choir, especially because she came back and visited us last year.”
Choir tenor leader Aabakwe Mpakoa said, “I am extremely excited that she was awarded her Grammy, especially after her visit last year. It shows that Edenglen and SA have amazing talent. Edenglen now has an Olympic runner and also an award-winning singer.”
