SAPS strengthens ties with allies

“Private security companies greatly assist the SAPS in tracing and tracking suspicious vehicles through their advanced camera systems."

In a continued effort to stamp out crime and improve police relations with local security companies, Edenvale SAPS met with security companies and Edenvale’s Neighbourhood Watch.

Held on January 31, the meeting was led by Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Chetty, head of Edenvale SAPS Visible Policing Unit.

Edenvale Police Station’s communications officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said the Social Crime Prevention Unit engaged with various private security companies to strengthen partnerships in the community.

“The objective is to partner with businesses and private security and see them play a role in the fight against crime.

“Private security companies greatly assist the SAPS in tracing and tracking suspicious vehicles through their advanced camera systems,” said Mashile.

He said these initiatives not only build partnerships but also send out a strong message to criminals.

“Their actions will not be given a chance to flourish as we all work together in strengthening our resources with an ultimate goal of curbing the scourge of crime,” said Mashile.
