Runners prepare for Jeppe Marathon

The charity of the race is the George Bizos Saheti Scholarship and Bursary Fund.

With 6000 athletes set to hit the streets of Edenvale and Bedfordview, community members and motorists are urged to be patient for the duration of the Balderstone Sport Jeppe Marathon.

Roads will be affected between 05:00 and 12:00.

Set to take place on February 11, the marathon will see runners circuit two laps around Bedfordview and Edenvale.

They will start off from Saheti School with a tough 10km that features several inclines before reaching the halfway mark.

As runners near Gillooly’s Farm, excitement rises as athletes prepare for some respite from the downhill that goes past the park before snaking into a hill.

The event gives runners of all abilities something to look forward to a tough 42km or 21km.

Additionally, there is a 10km race and a 5km fun run around the Senderwood area.

The George Bizos Saheti Scholarship and Bursary Fund will benefit from the race.

Eleven years ago, the board of Saheti, on the initiative of advocate George Bizos and his initial financial contribution, established a scholarship and bursary fund to assist and attract learners of outstanding ability who are in financial need.

Once established, Bizos emphasised that the spirit of Hellenism belongs to the world at large and that Saheti has a special responsibility to nurture it.

The first 4000 entries in the 42/21/10km distance races will receive a free T-shirt. There are goody bags for entrants and medals for all finishers.

The race will finish at Saheti School.
