Edenvale SAPS arrest suspect and confiscate dagga

“We are trying to preach to learners not to interact with drugs and do the right thing.”

While members of Edenvale SAPS were conducting the station’s back-to-school campaign and performing patrols in town, a suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of dagga.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested on January 17.

Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said sector managers, and Gauteng crime prevention wardens noticed two suspicious men at the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Street.

He said one of the men was carrying a large bag.

“Officers stopped near the men and one of the suspects ran away. The other one was detained.”

Mashile said SAPS members searched the suspect and the bag.

“Inside the bag they found dagga to the street value of R2 500, a box of rolling papers, R150 in cash and a sachet containing white powder,” said Mashile.

He said the police arrested the suspect and took him to Edenvale Police Station.

“The suspect was charged with dealing dagga and was faced charges at the Edenvale Magistrates Court.”

His first court appearance was on January 18.

“Edenvale SAPS management welcomed the arrest made by the officers,” said Mashile.

“We are trying to preach to learners not to interact with drugs and do the right thing.”
