SAPS crackdown on illicit liquor in Edenglen

“Samples of the liquor will be taken to determine the quality and legitimacy of the contents of the bottles.”

After receiving information about a Pretoria business allegedly selling counterfeit liquor, law enforcers followed a suspected customer to an Edenglen liquor store.

Sebenza Police Station’s spokesperson, Sergeant Sharron Tsotsotso, said SAPS officers and private security personnel raided the Edenglen store on December 30.

During the operation, authorities confiscated numerous bottles of suspected counterfeit liquor.

Tsotsotso said authorities scanned the suspected bottles to determine their legitimacy.

“Once they determined some of the liquor was illicit, they confiscated the bottles, and a case was opened in terms of the Liquor Act.

Numerous bottles of suspected counterfeit liquor were confiscated by authorities during the operation.

“The matter went to court but was withdrawn after receipts for the bottles of liquor were provided,” said Tsotsotso.

She said the matter is still under investigation despite the case being withdrawn.
