Clr Bill Rundle gets ready for the new year

This year some of Rundle's priority projects include the continued repair of the Eastleigh Spruit.

With a message to remain positive and hold those in power accountable, Ward 19 Alderman Bill Rundle welcomed the community back for the start of the new year.

This year Rundle hopes to see a restoration of services, maintenance and repairs in Edenvale.

Kicking off the year, Rundle hopes to be able to support the community and resolve their issues effectively.

This year some of Rundle’s priority projects include the continued repair of the Eastleigh Spruit.

He said the spruit must retain the business community, attract investment and assist with job creation by investors making Edenvale their preferred destination of choice.

Rundle said this year community members can expect him to maintain his visibility and involvement in the community, which he represents.

“I will dedicate my time and energies to unite the community in working to achieve goals and standards that will support the rights outlined in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution.”

When comparing 2023 to what potentially lies ahead, Rundle believes to make this year better the municipality must resolve its financial issues and restore the culture of payment for services by the communities.

He said by doing this funding can be allocated for repairs, maintenance and projects that have been put on hold or neglected.

Rundle said with the upcoming elections he is feeling excited about a potential change in government.

“This can be a huge boost for the restoration of the economic fortunes, not only on a national basis but for the region.”

He said as the community’s public representative all councillors are well-trained and prepared. “The needs of all of the citizens remain paramount.”

Speaking on whether or not he plans on standing for another term, he said that age has never been a problem for him to do his work.

“Subject to my health remaining stable, standing down has not yet become a consideration for me.”

He said running as a candidate depends on passing all selection criteria.

In the hopes of creating a better community and bringing positive change in Edenvale, Rundle encouraged residents to get involved.

“Have your say and start community initiatives. It is your right and it is your civic duty.”

“Remember you contribute to the tax coffers, which politicians allocate and spend. It in itself should motivate you to do public oversight and raise red flags,” said Rundle.

Rundle said although he is a public representative for Edenvale, like many he too is affected by service delivery issues

“At times I question why I do what I do. I endure verbal abuse from fellow citizens and at times expose myself to risk and danger.

“However, the small thank yous from residents or to see services restored make it worth the while knowing that this is being done to achieve a free, fair, equal and open opportunity society for all,” said Rundle.
