Christmas fun had at local centre

“Residents loved their personalised gifts, and the name meanings sparked much chatter.”

Christmas celebrations at Thembalami Care Centre and Max Ordman Deaf Association were a jolly and joyous occasion.

Held in mid-December, sponsors from the community helped make the day extra special.

Avbob arranged that Chris Coetzer, from the Three Tenors, provided top-notch entertainment.

“His audience engagement enchanted residents and staff,” said Thembalami manager Esme van der Walt.

The local councillor Jo-Anne Horwitz donated balloons that added to the festive spirit in the dining hall, while Michelle Chelliah Singh, from the Love, Light, Care Foundation, sponsored chips, balloons, crackers, and lollies.

She also brought a sleigh full of excitement by arriving with Santa (aka Mark Pillay), who posed for photos with the residents.

Esme said the occupational therapy department did the decorations and hall set-up, ably assisted by staff members.

“Thembalami Care Centre gave each resident a coffee mug bearing their name, plus its meaning.

She said each mug featured a different picture.

“Residents loved their personalised gifts, and the name meanings sparked much chatter,” said Elize Raath, Thembalami’s deputy manager.
