Declan Murphy, a matric learner from St Benedict's College, died whilst on holiday with his family in the Cape.

A member of the 2023 matric class, Declan Murhphy from St Benedict’s College died after what has been described as an “unfortunate accident”.

Murhphy’s death was announced by the school on December 29.

“Words cannot explain how deeply saddened we are to share the news that Declan, a loving young man, who completed his Grade 12 this year has passed away.”

“Declan had an unfortunate accident while on holiday with his family, sustaining serious injuries to his head. His doctor and the staff at George Medical-Clinic did all they could but he sadly passed on peacefully at 17h05 yesterday surrounded by family and friends,” the school stated.

“He had many wonderful moments at Bennies and was both a great student and leader. His presence was deeply and warmly felt by everyone he interacted with. We echo the words shared by his family: ‘Declan is and always will be our legend’.”
