Two people were killed on the N12, Bedfordview, following an alleged drinking and driving incident.

“Those that drink and drive are not only dangers to themselves but to other road users as well as pedestrians.

During this festive season, we will be full-on operational doing law enforcement, crime prevention, and saturation patrols.

Drunk driving will be one of the main priorities that we will take into task, bringing those who are caught to book.

“Motorists, who are suspected to be driving under the influence when taking into factors such as the odour of alcohol, suspicions of bloodshot red eyes, motor vehicle swerving, and unable to stand up straight when asked to step out of the motor vehicle, will be tested using an alcometer,” said Makgato.

“We urge motorists to not drink and drive. There are other means of using Uber transport without getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

“It remains our duty as law enforcers to impose stricter laws and instil knowledge on the negative impact of driving under the influence.”

He urged motorists and other road users to play their role in ensuring safer roads for all.
