How to drive safely during seasons – EMPD

Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded areas.

Because of the frequent wet weather, the EMPD calls on motorists to be cautious when driving.

They advise motorists to follow these safety tips:

• Motorists must be careful and avoid driving through flooded areas.

• Do not try to drive over a low-water bridge if water flows strongly across it and the ground is not visible.

• Do not park your car along rivers, especially during heavy rains and thunderstorms.

• Drive to and park in safe areas.

• Never walk, swim or drive through swift-flowing water, even if you think it is not deep.

• Pedestrians and cyclists must avoid crossing low-lying bridges, streams and rivers.

• Do not cross flooded roads or bridges. Rather, use other routes.

“The EMPD urges its road users to always be cautious and comply with the rules of the road as per the National Road Traffic Act at all times,” said EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa.
