Locals enjoy Madeira Festival

A portion of the ticket sales will go to Hospice East Rand and the Boksburg SPCA.

Hundreds of music lovers gathered at Casa dos Poveiros for the Madeira Fest, hosted by Caravela Events and the Portuguese Forum of South Africa, from November 3 to 5.

Brendan Peyper had fans on their feet by performing songs such as Stop, Wag, Bly Nog ‘n Bietjie and Trouvrou.

It was three days of musical bliss with a star-studded lineup of artists, including Mango Groove, Lee Cole and James Deacon, and celebrated local and Madeiran performers, including Miguel Preguiero, Miro Freitas, Buzico and João Quintino, Afrikaans superstars Brendan Peyper, Steve Hofmeyr, Karlien van Jaarsveld and Refentse and DJs Luis Almeida, Jay Em, Rix and Timo ODV.

Festival-goers enjoyed various mouth-watering Portuguese dishes, cool caipirinhas or poncha, delicious pastéis de natas and espresso, an outdoor market, a secure kids zone and traditional dancing.

Following his performance on November 5, singer Peyper told the Boksburg Advertiser that the thing that stood out for him was that people came out to see him and his band perform despite the heat.

“We didn’t expect people to jam and dance with us. We thought they would sit under the shade, but their support made it lekker.”

Always giving back, Madeira Fest 2023 committed to donating a portion of ticket sales to Hospice East Rand and the Boksburg SPCA.
