Brainy Birds to host fundraising market

“With our busiest time of year, December, January and February coming up, we need to push to raise funds."

Brainy Birds Parrot Rescue calls on the community for support and help as year-end approaches.

The founder of the NPO, Dee Hendrickx, said they are approaching their busiest time of year and need all the community support they can get.

She said despite hosting a successful Halloween night at the sanctuary at the end of October, they must still raise more funds.

“The Halloween event went well. It was good overall, but now we are planning our next event,” said Hendrickx.

The NPO plans to host a Christmas-themed market on November 26 between 10:00 and 16:00.

Hendrickx said the house on the NPO’s property will be turned into a winter wonderland for visitors to explore.
She said Mamba Security and KW Clockwork Properties would make the day possible.

On the day, visitors can expect jumping castles, a variety of food and Christmas fun for the whole family.
Hendrickx said the event will have educational opportunities besides being a fun day.

She said guided tours around the sanctuary will be on offer, as well as other educational content.
According to her, this has been a tough year.

“With our busiest time of year, December, January and February coming up, we need to push to raise funds,” said Hendrickx.

She said many birds are abandoned or neglected during these months because pet owners cannot find pet sitters or boarders to look after their birds when they are on holiday.

With the December holidays and the end of school approaching, the NPO is desperate for volunteers.
