Local band celebrates first birthday with entertainment

Since its establishment, Oceans of Angels has welcomed the sounds of violinist Waldo Alexander at its shows.

Local band Oceans of Angels celebrated its first birthday with a performance at Bedfordview’s Baileys.

Held on October 21, the performance was described as exceptionally great.

This is according to Sheldon Horvatic (vocalist and rhythm guitarist).

He performed with drummer Matt Rennie, lead guitarist Kevin Leicher, bassist Warren Leicher and violinist Waldo Alexander.

The band’s first performance was played at Bailey’s on October 22, last year.

Sheldon’s first single Shattered Soldier was released at the end of March 2022.

Following the release of his music, popularity and interest grew in what was described as Sheldon’s alternative indie rock project.

Sheldon said he never harboured any intention for the band to become as big as it has today.

He said in a short time before the first Bailey’s performance the band needed to put together in a matter of a few weeks.

“It’s been a very great year; it’s been very good and lucky. We’ve played some great shows and played with some great bands,” said Sheldon.

He said during the year there were some great opportunities.

“It just goes to show that the harder you work the better the reward.”

Since its establishment, Oceans of Angels has welcomed the sounds of violinist Waldo Alexander at its shows.

Sheldon explained that the sound of the violin often brings performances together.

“In many of our recorded tracks we make use of violins and we wanted to emulate that sound while on stage,” he said.

Sheldon said one of the most rewarding things for him is seeing longstanding fans at almost every performance.

“It’s cool to see the familiar faces over time. Seeing the fans at the show makes everything worth it.”

Sheldon said it is inspiring to see that fans know the lyrics to songs, often word for word.

Looking to the foreseeable future, Sheldon said the band has an upcoming single set to be released in several weeks and a new album coming up in a few months.

Presently they are working on plans for a national tour. For more information follow Oceans of Angels on Facebook and Instagram.
