Police arrest suspects for vehicle theft and possession of drugs

“The 47-year-old suspect will face charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court.”

A male suspect was arrested in Edenvale when members of the Benoni Flying Squad followed up on information with a tracking company.

According to Benoni Flying Squad communications officer Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the information led the police to a property on Plantation Road.

He said the suspect was arrested on October 17 at 11:45 at the scene for being in possession of a white Mercedes Benz.

Giblin said the car was reportedly hijacked and linked to a Tlhabane case.

“The 47-year-old suspect will face charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court,” said Giblin.

The Edenvale suspect was one of five suspects arrested between October 16 and 18 in Thembisa and Kempton Park.

Giblin said three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs at Mqantsa and Sedibeng sections in Thembisa and on Greyilla Avenue in Kempton Park.

“Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were confiscated in these separate incidents,” said Giblin.

He said the suspects will face charges of possession of and dealing in drugs in the Thembisa and Kempton Park magistrate’s courts.

On July 18, the fifth suspect was arrested in Thembisa for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Giblin said the 25-year-old was arrested at 00:15 in Winnie Mandela Zone 1.

“Investigations continue in all cases,” he said.
