Residents concerned about the state of Bedfordview Clinic

CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini said the reprioritisation of funds to meet other immediate and urgent public needs has delayed the procurement of garden services at Bedfordview Clinic.

Residents have raised alarming concerns about the current state of Bedfordview Clinic.

The primary concerns raised by residents include the lack of power backup during load-shedding, dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of the clinic premises and insufficient lighting.

This situation has allegedly resulted in disruptions to medical services and raised concerns about patient safety during power outages.

A resident stated the concerns have persisted for an extended period.

She visited the facility on September 27 for her regular check-up when her clinic card was misplaced.

“During load-shedding, there is no alternative lighting which led to the staff misplacing my card.

“As if that’s not bad enough the premises are dirty and unkempt. Surely this is a cause for concern regarding the overall hygiene standards within the facility,” she said.

“The CoE implemented a cost containment strategy from March 1, which required a reduction of the use of diesel, including at clinics,” said Dlamini.

Regarding the cleanliness and hygiene standards at the clinic, Dlamini stated the reprioritisation of funds to meet other immediate and urgent public needs has delayed the procurement of garden services.

“With regards to lighting, Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (WRHI) donated one lamp for HIV Testing Services (HTS).

“The Department of Health and Social Development sent a request to Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) for assistance with refuelling clinic generators with diesel, and they indicated that they do not have a budget at the present moment,” said Dlamini.
