Water outage extends to more areas including Bedfordview and Edenvale

No turn-around time has been provided by Rand Water nor CoE

Large parts of the Ekurhuleni including Edenvale, Germiston and Bedfordview are experiencing water supply interruption due to an electrical fault at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment plant.

Rand Water reported on September 20 that its water treatment plant power lines were affected by the severe thunderstorm around midnight on September 19 and subsequently tripped the plant.

“During attempts to restart the plant, faults along the overhead power lines supplying the auxiliary plant were identified,” said Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo.

This resulted in insufficient water supply to Kempton Park, Germiston, Nigel, Duduza, Tsakane, Brakpan, Bedfordview, Edenvale, Midstream, Clayville, Thembisa and surrounding areas.

“Engineers are on the ground to ensure that the situation is corrected as a matter of urgency,” said COE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
“Just when the situation was normalising in areas like Tsakane, this latest turn of events can take us back to where we have been for weeks now.

“Despite this, we have taken a decision to prioritise the normalisation of the supply in Tsakane, KwaThema and Duduza considering their challenges in the past month.”

Dlamini added that technicians are monitoring the entire city’s water network for a possible drop in supply to other areas so that interventions can be introduced.

Affected areas will be allocated roving water tankers as and when the need is identified.
