Local dancers set to represent SA on global stage

From local prodigies to global dance sensations, meet dance duo Alexia Munn and Michael Constantindes.

Alexia Munn (16) and Michael Constantindes (15), learners at Alpha Study Centre in Bedfordview, made waves in the dance community because of their skills and achievements.

Dance students at the Shablam Dance and Eborall Melville DeWitt Ballet academies, Alexia and Michael, consistently proved their mettle in the dance world.

The South African Body of Dance (SABOD), the body governing dance in SA, has recognised their excellence.
Over the year, the duo participated in several provisional qualifiers.

Alexia Munn (16) and Michael Constantindes (15) achieved top honours at the South African Body of Dance national competition.

As a result of their stellar performances, they received provincial colours and the honour of representing Gauteng at the SABOD Nationals.

At the highly competitive nationals, Alexia and Michael’s prowess shone brightly.

They secured a clean sweep of gold medals across ballet, jazz, and modern categories, firmly establishing their dominance.

Their achievements extended to the national level, as they both earned the title of national champion in all three dance genres.

Such exceptional accomplishments earned them the right to represent SA as they gear up for the International Dance Organisation (IDO) World Championships.

The IDO, a non-profit global federation encompassing more than 90 nations and over 500 000 dancers, is the pinnacle of dance competition.

The duo’s three-year partnership for pas de deux yielded remarkable results locally and internationally.

Their skill and talent were showcased on the global stage when they clinched world championship titles at the Dance World Cup finals in Spain and achieved scholarships and accolades at the Youth American Grand Prix in Paris, France.

As their journey progresses, the world anticipates their representation of SA at the upcoming dance competition in Belgium.
