Local wrestlers outshine competitors in tournaments

The club brought back many medals, and its teams comprised boys and girls from Benoni, Boksburg, Germiston and Kempton Park.

Raptors Wrestling Club recently participated in three grand tournaments and brought back many medals.

Girls and boys from Kempton Park, Benoni and Boksburg made up the various teams from the Raptors Wrestling Club.

At the Beast of the East tournament, Michael Oosthuizen won a gold medal in the U13 freestyle 47kg category.

Ben Oosthuizen took the bronze medal in the U13 freestyle 39kg category.

Devan van Tonder was awarded a silver medal in the U13 freestyle 41kg category, while Ivanka Bensch received a gold medal in the freestyle girls U10 category.

Werner van Wyk was awarded bronze medals in the U10 freestyle U10 presidents events.

Tristan Smit returned home with bronze medals in U10 freestyle and U10 presidents.

Danté Bensch earned a gold medal in freestyle boys U7.

Students then participated in the J Reitz Big 5 tournament at TUKS Sports Centre.

Paul Grobbelaar returned home with bronze medals in Greco-Roman seniors, Greco-Roman masters and freestyle masters.

Michael earned a bronze medal in the U13 freestyle 47kg, and Van Tonder returned with a silver medal in the U13 freestyle 41kg.

Jaun Vorster walked away with gold medals in the U11 freestyle and presidents events.

Anton Strydom was awarded a silver medal in the U11 presidents category and a gold medal in the U11 freestyle event.

Werner van Wyk received a silver medal in the U10 freestyle event, while Tristan Smit achieved a bronze medal in the U10 freestyle event.

Danté Bensch returned home with a gold medal in the freestyle U7 event, and Luan Probst received a bronze medal in the freestyle U7 event.

Next up for the club was participation in the Centurion Warriors event at Menlo Park.

Michael was awarded a bronze medal in the U13 freestyle 47kg event, and Vorster walked away with a silver medal in the U11 presidents category and a gold medal in the U11 freestyle event.

Ivanka received a silver medal in the freestyle event for girls U10 and Danté received a silver medal in the freestyle U7 event.

Probst returned home with a bronze medal in the freestyle U7 event.
