Local SPCA appeals for support

The NSPCA board appointed two members, Christine Kuch and Jacques Peacock, as board-appointed inspectors, agents, and representatives at the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA.

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA announced the appointment of two new board members and the resignation of its treasurer.

Responding to the organisation’s challenging circumstances, the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) took proactive measures to improve the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s efficacy.

After their appointment by the NSPCA board, Christine Kuch and Jacques Peacock assumed roles as inspectors, agents, and representatives.

According to Kuch, their mission was to collaborate with the committee to uphold the core objectives of the society and address concerns and challenges unique to the branch.

Kuch brings a distinguished background as a public relations specialist with an impressive 25-year tenure at the NSPCA.

Her commitment to animal welfare was evident in her leadership roles at various SPCAs, including Roodepoort and Randburg.

Peacock, a practising attorney of the High Court, was a familiar presence in the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA community since 2018.

However, the organisation faced an unforeseen setback with the treasurer’s resignation in the lead-up to the AGM.

Kuch said the unexpected departure necessitated a comprehensive review of the organisation’s financial management procedures.

Because of these changes and challenges, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA urgently appealed to the community for immediate and sustained support.

“Despite the challenges faced, the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA remains dedicated to its mission.”

“The organisation acknowledges the commitment of its only remaining committed committee members, Roxanne Bredenkamp and Hilary Mithcley, who continue to demonstrate unwavering determination for the well-being of the SPCA.

“While a few applications were received, undergoing the prescribed application process, the SPCA is actively seeking more individuals devoted to animal welfare to join its committee,” said Kuch.

She said their financial challenges demanded immediate attention.

“It is with candour and a commitment to transparency that the organisation discloses the amounts owed to its most significant creditors.

“The burden of debt looms large, seemingly insurmountable,” she added.

The branch owes the Witfield Veterinary Clinic R31 099.25, the CoE R8 380.98, Germiston Veterinary Hospital R72 571.80 and fuel station accounts R41 018.52.

“In addition to these immediate financial concerns, we are also grappling with recurring operational costs crucial to ongoing operations.”

These included salaries, wages, electricity and rates, fuel and veterinary costs.
