EMPD recovered motorcycle parts to the value of R200 000

The four suspects were apprehended in Benoni.

The EMPD’s Northern Task Team (NTT) apprehended four men for the possession of suspected stolen goods.

They detained the suspects during a crime prevention operation in the Benoni area on August 1.

The EMPD spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, said EMPD officers received a tip-off regarding an active tracking device installed on a vehicle seen moving from Gillooly’s interchange towards the N12 freeway in the Bedfordview area.

Prompt action led officers to intercept a white Isuzu single-cab light delivery vehicle (LDV) towing a trailer on the N12 near the Tom Jones offramp.

The EMPD arrested four suspects for possession of suspected stolen goods.

Four men, including the driver, were in the LDV.

Thepa said the suspects became restless upon inspection of the vehicle.

“The four indicated to officers they were transporting goods for people on request, usually from Johannesburg to Mozambique.

“The officers found half-stripped motorcycles, a two-bed base with two motorcycle parts inserted inside, stripped to pieces and one bike in a plastic bathtub, all worth R200 000, on the trailer. The men gave a poor explanation,” explained Thepa.

She added there were no official documents to back up their claims.

“After testing, the police positively identified the different motorcycle parts as stolen as reported at the Silverton Police Station,” she said.

The suspects are at the Benoni Police Station and will appear in court soon.
