Home reduced to ashes in destructive Kloof Road fire

No fatalities or injuries were reported following last night's blaze on Kloof Road.

Ekurhuleni’s DEMS confirmed that a fire broke out at 19:30 on July 24 on Kloof Road leaving one house and a cottage ‘completely destroyed’.

According to DEMS’ Eric Maloka, the fire originated near the nature reserve and was fuelled by high aerial grass.

As the wind direction changed, embers were carried across the road, igniting the thatched roof of a house and a cottage.

In response to the emergency, multiple Ekurhuleni fire and rescue service crews were dispatched to the scene.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

“Fire crews went the offensive and defensive way of fighting the fire while others focused on protecting neighbouring properties to prevent further damage.

“The fire was quickly controlled. Fire safety officials will investigate the cause of the fire,” said Maloka.

The Bedfordview CPF and accompanying security companies reported the incident to the fire department.
