Nicol Road finally opened for motorists

Nicol Road previously closed for extensive renovations, has been officially reopened to the public.

Nicol Road officially reopened for motorists on July 21 after nearly three months of closure due to the sagging of the road surface.

The stormwater culvert pipe at the corner of Bothma and Nicol roads has been reconstructed and repainted as well as palisade fencing has been installed.

This will help curb the influx of traffic on Kloof Road and Van Buuren.

After months of construction and improvements, Nicol Road is now ready to accommodate commuters and travellers alike. Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys celebrates the opening of the road.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said following numerous postponements, “There was no delay, only an inaccurate estimate of extensive works that had to be done. I am thrilled and relieved that it is done.

“The contractors have been amazing, I’m no engineer but I do know that they have been professional and committed on site.

Nicol Road is now open for road users.

“They have not held back and their work ethic is fantastic,” explained Humphreys, while acknowledging the inconvenience experienced by motorists.

Previously the metro had attributed the inaction on Nicol Road to the lack of funding.
At the time, the CoE’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini explained that the stormwater system pipes had collapsed, disjointed and sagged due to ageing and insufficient intake capacity.
The opening was attended by the City of Ekurhuleni project manager, Frank Phahlamohlaka.
