Potjie competition raises funds for Edenvale SPCA

Community shows support for the Edenvale SPCA's potjie fundraiser.

The Edenvale SPCA annual potjie competition attracted local animal and food lovers for a highly successful fundraising event at the German Club in a bid to generate funds for the well-being of animals.

The event, held on July 8, saw an impressive turnout from the community.

There were also prizes for the cutest small and large breeds.

Winner in the small/medium breed competition, Rika’s Luna.

SPCA’s chairperson Marion Garrett and secretary Jade De Bruyn expressed their gratitude to all those who attended the event, emphasising the vital role these funds play in sustaining the organisation.

“Every year, it gets better and better.”

“We get hardly anything from the government, so any funds we receive will be allocated to covering salaries and veterinary fees,” Garrett explained.

The organisation’s veterinary bills are ‘astronomical’, ranging between R35 000 to R45 000 per month.

Organiser Maddi Higgins said, “We are happy with the turnout. The community has come out in full force, bringing along their amazing dogs and potjie pots.

“We moved it this year to bigger premises at the German Club.

“A big thank you to WAHL for their generous prizes, and to Hollywood Bets for always supporting us,” Higgins stated.

They collaborated with Heart Space Events to organise the market section of the event, featuring local stalls and other non-profit organisations.
