Therapy fun enjoyed at Ron Smith Care Centre

Baking fun was on the menu when Thornhill Manor’s Happy Chatters Walkers occupational therapy group recently joined the fun at Ron Smith Care Centre’s (RSCC) day care centre.

During their visit, the group baked and decorated cupcakes with different coloured icing and delicious toppings.

“The best of all is everyone thoroughly enjoyed eating them afterwards,” said Karen Griesel, Thornhill Manor’s social worker.

“Our staff enjoyed meeting and socialising with RSCCs residents, and some even had their nails done.”

Started four years ago by the occupational therapist and Thornhill Manor resident Vicky Keenan, Happy Chatters gives residents a weekly walk and treats, followed by various creative and fun occupational therapy activities.

After their visit to RSCC, the group went to Elphino’s coffee shop at Elphin Lodge retirement village, where they and their caregivers enjoyed a lovely lunch.

“The whole exercise lifted the spirits of our residents and their caregivers.

“Thank you to RSCC’s occupational therapy team, managed by Marle Grabe, and the care centre staff for hosting us,” said Karen.
