Local aspiring pro golfers enjoy training camp

Local golfers Michael Wallace and Gilbert Chalwe amongst those selected for high performance training camp in Cape Town.

The Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) recently hosted the second African High-Performance Golf Training Camp in partnership with TGSE Cape Town.

According to the organisation’s Roger King, training camps formed part of a project to increase the competitiveness of golf across the continent.

“Fourteen selected players and five national coaches from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius, Namibia and Uganda enjoyed four days of intensive testing, training, competition and learning,” said King.

Among the selected players were BSI Junior Academy graduate Michael Wallace and current BSI PGA diploma student Gilbert Chalwe.

The BSI congratulated Casandra Alexander for winning the Standard Bank Pro-Am Series at Bryanston Country Club from July 4 to 6.

Alexander won with an -2, taking her third Standard Bank Pro-Am Series event this season.

Sixth position – Lora Assad

T20 – Shawnelle de Lange

All three ladies work with mental coach Mark Fairbank.

The BSI Srixon Junior Golf Tour, in conjunction with the Ekurhuleni Golf Union, will be held on August 6 at the Glendower Golf Club.
