Local homeless shelters invited to first forum meeting

The forum may discuss topics such as shelter operations, safety protocols, funding and collaboration between different shelter providers.

Homeless shelters in Ekurhuleni are invited to send a representative to the first meeting of the Shelters Forum on June 30.

The meeting will take place at Manger Care Centre, 8 Kirschner Road, Brentwood Park, at 09:30 for 10:00.

This comes on the back of the recent formation of the Ekurhuleni Homeless Forum, a coordinating body that brings together different organisations and individuals who provide support to homeless people in the region.

Andrew Wessels of Manger Care Centre explained that the Shelters Forum will focus on the management and operation of shelters specifically.

“It aims to bring together organisations that run shelters for homeless individuals,” he said.

“This forum’s primary purpose will be to facilitate communication, share best practices and address specific challenges related to providing shelter to homeless people.

The forum may discuss topics such as shelter operations, safety protocols, funding and collaboration between different shelter providers.”
