Joint response brings arrest of two suspects in Marais Steyn Park

Two suspects were arrested and a crime was foiled after law enforcement officers responded to a residential robbery in Marais Steyn Park.

Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, Edenvale SAPS corporate communications officer said two suspects were arrested on April 19 while three firearms and ammunition were recovered. Two more suspects fled the scene.

Mashile said one of the arrested suspects injured himself while climbing over walls. He received medical attention.

Mashile said the authorities became aware of the crime after four suspects held up a domestic worker at about 13:44. The domestic worker managed to press the panic button.

“Edenvale CPF, through their patrol group, alerted the community and security personnel responded.

“A hail of bullets welcomed them upon their arrival. They retaliated while phoning the local police,” said Mashile.

After the suspects noticed the security personnel, they fled on foot, leaving behind two vehicles loaded with stolen items.

Mashile said the vehicles which were recovered included a white Nissan NP200 related to an Alexandra SAPS case and a black BMW related to a Bramley SAPS case.

Police are investigating cases of residential robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder and possession of stolen property.

The Edenvale Police Station commander, Colonel Ntombomzi Basholo, welcomed the initiative of the stakeholders and police.
