Bedfordview SAPS’ corporate communication officer Sergeant Lillian Modiga said Guerreiro (Ward 92) was arrested on October 19.

Commenting on behalf of Guerreiro, Ekurhuleni DA Chief Whip Alderman Khetha Shandu said the party was aware of the matter.

“The matter and circumstances of what transpired is sub-judice and the rule of law must be allowed to take its course.”

“It would be imprudent to disclose information that would jeopardise the case.”

Shandu said the DA expects councillors to carry out their duties and at all times to conduct themselves in line with the law.

Commenting on whether this will affect residents and businesses in Ward 92 Shandu, said service delivery will continue.

“The councillor was charged, not convicted and as such, he will continue to perform his duties,“ said Shandu.

The Office of the Speaker was requested to comment by October 21 at 14:00. No comment was received at the time of publishing.
