New album by a local artist hits airwaves

Germiston’s rising star King Dee has a deep passion for acting and making music.

Dumisani Masondo, best known by his stage name King Dee, emerged as a rising star in the music and acting industries.

At 38, this Germiston resident’s journey from humble beginnings to the limelight was a testament to his passion and dedication to the arts.

His interest in the arts started at primary school in his hometown of Pomeroy in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

He used to act in church plays, was part of the school choir and sane isichathamiya (a cappella choral singing) with friends.

“I love music and acting because I get to connect with people I don’t know. It is always an honour to be complimented by strangers. I have learnt to respect everyone I meet,” he shared.

His breakthrough happened in 2021 when his music video for Baby Mama earned him recognition and was featured on MTV, Channel O and Trace Music.

The same year, he made a brief but notable appearance on the popular TV series, The River.

“People still notice me today because of that appearance,” he said.

Breaking into the entertainment industry was challenging, particularly for independent artists like King Dee.

“It is not easy, especially when you are an independent artist. You have to hustle like crazy for music and acting.
“Everything needs money, especially music.

“It is better with acting because you make money instead of spending it,” explained King Dee.

He is gearing up to release a new single by the end of October.

Titled Uzongikhumbula, DJ Audionic produced it, and Temple Arena engineered it. The visuals were by Yebisa Bango Films.

“Fans can expect a bit of change style-wise. It is still Afropop but with a bit of amapiano style this time,” said King Dee.

About handling acting and music, he said, “I have to understand the audience I am entertaining at the moment.
“There is a big difference between being on stage and set.

“Remember, when you do music, there is a bit of acting.

“I have gained the skill of acting and confidence in front of the camera,” he explained.

He has graced the stage alongside esteemed artists like Black Diamond, Mlindo The Vocalist, Ntando, Sjava, Intaba YaseDubai, and Big Zulu.
