One fire saw the destruction of Primrose Bowling Club, where one woman died as a result of the fire.

Firefighters urge business owners to exercise caution after two buildings caught fire last week.

“We had to connect our hoses to the fire hydrant across from the retail centre, so we closed up a portion of Shamrock Road. We had access to enough water to put out the fire and contain it.

“Sadly, we learned that a female adult had died. She was found hidden beneath the debris. The police were given the crime site to conduct investigations. The origin of the fire is yet unknown,” he said.

On June 20, a building on Main Reef Road caught fire as well, causing structural damage but no injuries or fatalities.

“Businesses should comply with building regulations, to make sure that all necessary fire prevention measures are in place.

“Sprinkler system installation is required, and fire extinguishers of the proper kind, fire hose reels, and fire hydrants in accordance with and as per South African building regulations construction requirements,” said Ntladi.
