Lisa Atkins, a director of Essentially Edenvale, said the event on July 1 will kick-start the park’s rehabilitation.

“Please either come or send your gardener with gardening equipment to clean up, cut back and tidy up the paving along First Avenue and the parking lot and surrounding veld,” said Lisa.

Gardening equipment required for the day includes flat spades, rakes, brush cutters, weed eaters and chainsaws.

Lisa said if community members or staff are unable to assist, a donation towards the cause would greatly assist and be appreciated.

“This project hopes to make Edenvale safer and cleaner,” said Lisa.

She said Essentially Edenvale’s clean-up volunteers, Edenvale CPF and Mamba have committed to assist with a clean-up started by Donna, a River Ridge resident.

“This is being done following increased crime in the area due to low visibility caused by long grass and overgrown trees,” said Lisa.

The community improvement organisation appealed to the surrounding communities in the Avenues and enclosures to assist with the clean-up and take back the park.

• July 22: Clean-up of the Edenvale Road bridge over the R24, which was adopted by Strongcor Packaging.

Lisa said cleaning in the area has already started and a mass initiative to plant plants, paint kerbs and more will be done.
