Bedfordview Police highlight child protection week

Child Protection Week aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children from abuse, exploitation and neglect.

The Bedfordview SAPS kicked off Child Protection Week, observed annually from May 29 to June 5, by visiting Klopperpark Primary School and A and I Nursery School in Elandsfontein.

Child Protection Week aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children from abuse, exploitation and neglect.

The Bedfordview SAPS brought the message to hundreds of schoolchildren joined by the social crime prevention coordinator, DV co-ordinator, sector managers, second-hand goods officer, Department of Community Safety, DSD Germiston, Old Mutual, teachers and school management.

Sergeant Lillian Modiga, corporate communication officer for Bedfordview SAPS, said learners and toddlers were educated about children’s rights, cyberbullying, drug abuse, theft, kidnapping, sexual assault, and stranger danger.

They were also encouraged to report all criminal activities by calling the local police or informing their parents.
