To mark the occasion, residents and local businesses are invited to an event at Glendower Golf Club to be held on June 5 from 18:30.

At the event, the organisation will update the community on its progress and share its plans to make Bedfordview better.

Better Bedfordview is an apolitical NPO that is cleaning up and restoring roads, parks, pavements and public places.

“We want to have a suburb that the community can be proud of, safely use and enjoy.

“Our mission includes enhancing the appearance and functionality of Bedfordview, maintaining and increasing the value of properties and ensuring the community’s enjoyment of our environment,” said the organisation’s chairperson, Marina Constas.

She noted that the organisation has made roads safer by fixing almost 400 potholes to date.

Social media users have praised the organisation as its clean-up team has paved, weeded, cut grass, trimmed trees, planted and painted around Bedfordview.

“It’s such a change to see grass cut or weeds pulled out and then raked up afterwards. Really looks good as it should.

Great job,” said Simone Deacon.

Another user, Colleen Elliott said, “What would we do without the wonderful Better Bedfordview team?”

In addition to stopping the decay and degradation of the area, they are working to promote local businesses and foster collaboration and community spirit while also creating employment, added Constas.

With funding and support from residents and businesses, Better Bedfordview employs previously unemployed people for its projects, she explained.

“To make a meaningful difference in Bedfordview and to ensure that Better Bedfordview is sustainable, we need all residents and local businesses to make a monthly contribution – R200 per household and R1 000 for a business.

“If this is not affordable, however, we will be grateful for whatever amount people can contribute,” she said.
