Suspects caught with unlicensed firearm in Germiston

Police follow a tip-off to make a successful arrest.

Germiston SAPS crime prevention team arrested four men for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Three of the four suspects were in possession of unlicensed firearms and one suspect was in possession of ammunition.

“The SAPS followed up on an anonymous tip-off that people are hiding in flats on Meyer Street.

“When police investigated they found the men in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The station commander encouraged the public to continue working with law enforcement members to keep Germiston streets free of criminals,” said Germiston SAPS communications officer Const Maxwell Mabunda.

SAPS Ekurhuleni district communications officer Captain Nelda Sekgobela said 428 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the Ekurhuleni District between May 5 to 7.

“Suspects nabbed committed crimes such as theft, money laundering, contravention of protection orders, sexual harassment and tampering with essential infrastructure.

“In Edenvale on May 6, a shop owner on Van Riebeeck Avenue was arrested for dealing in narcotics after information was received from community members.

“Narcotics estimated to the value of R30 000 were seized,” said Sekgobela.
