New rankings for EMPD officers

Four superintendents were promoted to chief superintendent (lieutenant colonel) positions, and bade farewell to the retiring deputy director (colonel).

Four EMPD officers were promoted to higher positions and a veteran bade the department farewell.

The event was held on March 30 in Bedfordview. Four superintendents were promoted to chief superintendent (lieutenant colonel) positions and bade farewell to the retiring deputy director (colonel).

The EMPD officers are sworn into their new positions.

Lieutenant Colonel Phumulani Makhathini has 27 years of experience as a law enforcer and supervisor.Lieutenant Colonel Innocentia Keetse, Jabulani Gebhuza and Cebisile Ximba have 14 to 21 years of clean service, with the appropriate credentials.

All those promoted have experience in law enforcement operations and specialised services like administration, crowd management, enforcing municipal by-laws and crime prevention.

The EMPD management congratulated and commended the quartet on their promotions.

The chief of police, Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye, said, “They will be deployed to different regions and precincts as soon as possible to serve the community in the City of Ekurhuleni.”

At the same event, the department bade farewell to deputy director Piet van Staden, who has served in the police for 43 years.

He joined the department in 1980. He was part of the Midrand Traffic Department and was later appointed as an adjunct professor.

During his time at the department, he earned a clinical psychology degree.

He was awarded medals by Colonel (deputy director) Madelaine Bloemhof and the deputy municipal police commissioner (deputy chief of police) Goodman Mzolo.
