Almost 400 suspects nabbed in Ekurhuleni during the weekend

Some 393 suspects were arrested for various crimes across Ekurhuleni between March 31 and April 2.

The SAPS Ekurhuleni District communications officer, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, said the successes emanate from various joint operations between the SAPS, the community and other law enforcement agencies.

“The operations were conducted in the Ekurhuleni policing precincts, including high-density operations held in Thembisa on April 1.

“Seventeen illegal immigrants were nabbed for being undocumented, five were arrested for driving vehicles while under the influence of alcohol and 66 traffic fines to the value of R22 700 were issued to motorists,” said Sekgobela.

A total of 21 pokes of dagga, 50g of crystal meth and 250g of Cat were also seized.

“Other suspects nabbed in the Ekurhuleni policing precincts committed crimes such as fraud, drinking and driving, armed robberies, assault, including domestic violence, robbery with weapons other than a firearm, murder, attempted murder, shoplifting, contravention of counterfeit goods, tampering with essential infrastructure, theft of motor vehicles, house burglary and theft, rape and interference with police duties.”
