Local special school in need of winter uniforms and computers

The school is facing financial challenges and any kind of assistance is welcome.

Ithembelihle LSEN School is requesting assistance from the community to buy uniforms for their children.

Fundraising coordinator Wayne Schoeman said, “We have 320 learners that we need to buy uniforms for.

“We are asking companies and individuals to assist us because our learners cannot afford to buy their winter uniforms and the cold season is around the corner,” said Schoeman.

The winter uniform includes a tracksuit, jersey, golf shirt, school drimac and pullover.

The school is also asking for assistance in buying 30 computers.

“We need computers for our computer lab because the school cannot afford to buy the resources we need to run the school and we rely on donations,” said Schoeman.

He said the school is facing financial challenges and any assistance is welcome.

The school’s principal, Leonor Ngozi, said the school always needs support.

“The department of education provides the school with a subsidy and the balance of the funding must be obtained through fundraising efforts and donations for us to meet our strategic and business objectives.

“We have a boarding school and children need to be fed and food became expensive. Also, we have learners who are in diapers and these are expensive,” said Ngozi.

The school caters to learners with cerebral palsy and other medical conditions.

Hence, there is a range of disabilities present at the school .

These include muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, poliomyelitis, congenital amputation, phocomelia, arthrogryposis and hydrocephalus.
