Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice’s premises needed repairs to a leaking roof, broken gutters and damaged ceiling.

The Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice’s building received a much-needed facelift with the support of the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon.

These Rotarians have had a lengthy association with the centre since the club first organised donations of paint and labour to paint the centre’s buildings on 55 Sixth Avenue in Edenvale in 2010.

In mid-2021, Marlene Hooper, who runs the centre, approached the club for help to repair the leaking roof, broken gutters and ceiling damage that had occurred since the 2010 repainting.

The Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice is a well-run NPO that cares for Edenvale’s severely and terminally ill patients without medical aid who need to be close to their loved ones.

The Knights Pendragon Rotarians ensured that Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice’s building received much-needed repairs. The premises needed repairs to a leaking roof, broken gutters and a damaged ceiling.

It provides nursing care, volunteer doctors, medication and comfort 24/7.

The leaking roof had caused mould and dampness in the wards and created an unsightly environment for patients and families.

These conditions are not conducive to the level of care and healing these terminally ill patients require.

The Rotary Club immediately sought support for this building repair and painting project. However, because the economy was struggling to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, it proved difficult to secure the necessary support.

The club and centre are grateful to Tiber Construction for generously agreeing to take on the project, together with the significant contributions of their suppliers, Wall ‘n All Colour Coatings CC, Paint Trade Edenvale for the roof paint and Tintinger & Tsholingo Waterproofing Specialist without whom the project would not have happened.

Over about 18 months, while fitting in this charity work between contracts, the Tiber, Wall ‘n All and Tintinger & Tsholingo teams worked to repair and waterproof roofs and gutters and then paint all of the buildings inside and out.

The result was a sound, dry and attractive building that Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice is again proud of and inspired to use.

Edenvale Care Centre and Hospice is elated with the beautiful environment and thanks all concerned, especially Andrew Connold, for their initiative and to the dedicated Team from Tiber Construction for their dedication to our centre.
