Saheti celebrates colourful day for the Greek community

The federation’s president, Panayotis Baladakis, said such a celebration is necessary for history and to remind the youth and Greek community of their heritage.

The Greek community embraced their culture through dance, music, and food stalls when they celebrated Greek Independence Day (March 25) on March 19.

Held at Saheti School, the Hellenic Federation of South Africa hosted the colourful event.

A showcase of culture was on display at the Greek Independence Day event that was held on March 19 at Saheti School.

Greek and non-Greek community members were aplenty on the day.

The federation’s president, Panayotis Baladakis, said such a celebration is necessary for history and to remind the youth and Greek community of their heritage.

A fun-filled day as the Hellenic Federation of South Africa hosts the Greek Independence Day.

“As a South African-born Greek, we must never forget where our parents came from and our heritage.

“I would like it if my children could speak Greek and know its history.

“We want to ensure that our grandchildren know what it is like being of Greek heritage and that it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world,” he said.

The day was celebrated in true Greek style with lots of food, music, dancing, stalls and a fun fair.
